Pentakill, the in-game League of Legends heavy metal band, is getting a real-world album release. The Rift riffing, summoner shredding band Pentakill is bringing metal back to the Fields of Justice with their new album, Smite and Ignite. It's a Pentakill skin so has Kayle decked out in heavy metal-style armour, joining the likes of Pentakill Sona, Yorick, Karthus, Olaf and Mordekaiser.
Behind the scenes, the songs on Smite & Ignite were created by a rotating cast of professional metal musicians, including Jørn Lande (Jorn, Beyond Twilight, Masterplan) and ZP Theart (Skid Row, Dragonforce), as well as by the music composition and production team at League of Legends' parent company, Riot Games.
Pentakill is a virtual metal band within the game, and Karthus is not only a powerful warrior, but also the lead singer of the band. The remainder of the band features Karthus, Yorick, Sona, Olaf and Mordekaiser. One of those genres is metal, with an in-house band going by Pentakill producing an album a couple of years ago.
In 2014, the Riot Games music label issued the band's first foray out of the video game realm, "Smite And Ignite" — an eight-track collection of appropriately punishing songs that was written completely in-house at Riot, and supported by the talents of studio musicians, including ZP Theart of DRAGONFORCE, Derek Sherinian of DREAM THEATER, Lohner and Lande.
Like before I've been working closely with the great Riot Games team in LA, and this time around we are aiming for a full length album with Karthus as captain of the vocal ship. In addition, the Hansons told me, Pentakill helps League of Legends players keep track of hundreds of spells for teleporting, powering up, healing, and more.
The new tour is bringing more than music to League of Legends this week. Billed as the fictional land of Valoran's most famous rock band, the quintet is fronted by the demonic Karthus, and rounded out by drummer Olaf, bass player Yorick, keyboardist Sona, and guitarist Mordekaiser.
Recorded in the catacombs of the Shadow Isles, the album was engineered and produced by Riot Games in Los Angeles, CA and London, UK; with mixing and mastering duties being handled by Jacob Hansen (VOLBEAT, HEAVEN SHALL BURN, EPICA, DORO etc.). Pentakill Kayle is the newest member of the group and provides excellent backing vocals for the band.
Grasp of the Undying was recorded in the catacombs of the Shadow Isles , and engineered and produced by Riot Games in Los Angeles, CA and London, UK. It was also mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Circus Maximus, Anubis Gate, etc.). Lyric videos for the pre-released songs ‘Tear Of The Goddess' and ‘The Bloodthirster' have already racked up over a million views between them, thanks to the unique bond the gamer has to the band.
The overwhelming response to Pentakill was instant after the band released their debut EP, which cracked Billboard's Top 40 and debuted at No. 1 on the iTunes Metal and Rock charts. League of Legends is one of the most popular games out there, and thousands of gamers carve themselves into legends and champions.
The end of Vagabond came with the reformation of TNT in 1996, and subsequently the band members went their separate ways, with Jørn joining a band formed in by Whitesnake former league of legends guitarists Bernie Marsden and Micky Moody called The Snakes After a tour with The Snakes playing mostly Whitesnake covers and the recording of an album released only in Japan called Once Bitten , Jørn was fired from the band and joined other projects, including the Symphonic Metal band Mundanus Imperium, which resulted on the album The Spectral Spheres Coronation.
For those not familiar with Pentakill and League of Legends : League of Legends is the worlds most popular online game with visits of more than 100 million players every month. It's also something that rarely happens in "League of Legends" competitive play: Teams form strategies against such devastation.
